Cyriocosmus leetzi

As the name suggest this spider is from Colombia. It is a dwarf species of tarantula and grows to roughly 2-3 inches. Predominantly a fossorial species (lives underground), they are found in Colombia’s tropical forests. The one pictured is kept by me and is very calm and docile.

The striking pattern on it’s abdomen is why it is called a ‘tiger’ as well as it’s rather large appetite and ruthless hunting of any poor insect to cross it’s path.

The one I keep is about an inch long and is kept in a small tub that I’ve filled with enough coco fibre for it to create a labyrinth of tunnel systems underneath. I feed it two small crickets a week and slightly water the enclosure to increase the humidity. Like all tarantulas, I do not handle if necessary. The photos are from when I moved it into a larger tub and it did it no harm whatsoever.
